Writing
We are passionate about writing at Seaton St Paul’s C of E Junior School. Our writing curriculum is designed using Literacy Tree to ensure all children are exposed to a wide range of genres and high-quality texts, which capture their imagination and stimulate positive response to reading, high-quality writing and purposeful opportunities for Spoken Language. Our book-based curriculum also immerses children in a range of literacy worlds and themes, heightening engagement and creating curiosity through process drama, discussion and debate.
Literacy Tree has mapped the coverage of the English Programme of Study for Key Stage 2 Writing requirements and places audience and purpose at the core. Children are continuously provided meaningful opportunities to develop their writing, whether in short, long or extended pieces by writing for a specific audience or purpose. As a school, we ensure that all writing objectives are covered more than once, so children have several opportunities to apply their learning over the course of the year, as well as consolidating prior knowledge from previous years. We embed the teaching of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) in all our lessons so children are continuously using the skills and knowledge taught so they can confidently consolidate it.
